The monk parakeet (Myiopsitta monachus), also known as the Quaker parrot, is a species of true parrot in the family Psittacidae. It is a small, bright-green parrot with a greyish breast and greenish-yellow abdomen. Its average lifespan is 20–30 years.
They are one of the most intelligent and active parrot species, known for their playful, sociable and curious nature. They are also known to be very vocal, and enjoy interacting with their owners. They can make great pets, they are known to form strong bonds with their owners and can learn to mimic words and phrases.
Monk Parakeet, is native to South America, specifically Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, and Paraguay. They are known to inhabit open country, savannahs and subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland. They can also be found in urban areas, where they are known to build large stick nests on utility poles, power lines, and in trees. Due to their adaptability and hardiness, they have been introduced to other parts of the world, such as the United States, Canada, and Europe, where they have established wild populations.
